Acupuncture can be utilized in a variety of different ways depending upon what you are treating.
Chronic conditions would be classified as issues you have had for many months to years or a wear and tear issue (job with a chronic repetitive movement, excess sitting, standing etc.). Initially if the chronic condition is flaring up then it would be recommended it be treated 2-4 times per month. Many people choose to use acupuncture 1-2 times per month to help decrease the progression of their chronic issue. Acupuncture is used to help decrease pain and improve mobility therefore in addition to other positive lifestyle choices it can potentially decrease the need for pain medication. Acupuncture also has all the other positive benefits like improving digestion, supporting immunity, calming the mind, aiding in reproductive issues, balancing hormones, and supporting all our internal organs by providing good circulation and flow in our bodies.
Acute issues would be classified as a short term problem (no longer than a couple of months). Generally acute issues need more frequency of treatment at 2-4 times per month at minimum. Most acute issues can be managed within 6-12 treatments depending upon overall health, age and life style.
Wellness acupuncture is used as a way to achieve more optimal health. Thousands of years ago acupuncture was known as the emperor’s medicine. It was used to keep the emperor in optimal wellness so another emperor didn’t snatch up the kingdom. You too can use it this way! To achieve this it really should be utilized at least once per month to get the best health benefit.
All this being said many people just know when it is time for the next treatment. Many feel a wear off that gives them the indication that it is time for the next one. The great thing about acupuncture it is hard to overdo!
